When Does Summer Registration Open? A Lodi Parent's Timeline

Early birds get the spots. Here's when to register for swim lessons, camps, sports leagues, and more in Lodi.

The short answer: April is the big month

Going by the registration windows actually recorded in the Lodi directory this year, April is when summer registration breaks open: Junior Giants and both WOW Science camps opened April 1, Little Leapers summer enrollment opened April 24, and BOBS soccer opens in April. City of Lodi specialty camps take registration into June and July deadlines. If you plan ahead, set a calendar reminder for late March.

What opens when

Spring, exact dates on each program page: City of Lodi camps through Parks and Rec. This includes Summer Safari Camp, the only full-day city-run camp in Lodi (7am to 6pm, ages 4-12). If you need full-day care in June, this is the one to watch. Parks and Rec also runs LEGO Robotics Camp, Clay Creations, and Slime Science Camp; this year their registration deadlines ran from mid-June through mid-July, so spots were still open well into spring.

April 1: World of Wonders Science Museum opened summer camp registration April 1 this year. WOW Science Summer Camp (Jr. Camp: Ages 5-7) and WOW Science Summer Camp (Main Camp: Ages 8-11) register by the week, with sessions closing one by one through July. The popular themed weeks go first, so pick your weeks early.

Also April: Lodi Junior Giants opened April 1 this year, and it is free, so register early rather than betting on space later. Little Leapers Preschool Sports summer enrollment opened April 24, and BOBS Soccer opens its season registration in April. Skyhawks camps through Lodi Parks and Rec (Basketball, Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball) are all half-day (9am to 12pm) with deadlines that ran June into July this year, so plan afternoon care or pair with another program.

Later spring: Specialized programs and competitive leagues post as their seasons firm up. Lodi FC Competitive Soccer holds tryouts periodically for the following season, The Craft Room posts its summer camp calendar in spring, and Kids Kayak Camp at the Lodi Boathouse runs short summer sessions. Each program page shows the current window when it posts.

Programs with rolling enrollment

Not everything follows a spring window. Some programs enroll year-round and just run summer sessions on the same schedule. Impact Sports Center gymnastics, Next Level Dance & Cheer Academy, martial arts studios like Infinity Martial Arts and JG Academy Lodi, and swim lessons at City of Lodi Aquatics all operate continuously. You can sign up in January, you can sign up in June. The trade-off: no discount for early registration, but also no stress about missing a narrow window.

Programs with no registration deadline

A handful of Lodi programs are drop-in or have open enrollment all summer. Paws to Read at Lodi Public Library runs every Wednesday 3pm to 5pm, free, no registration. The Mud Mill Paint-Your-Own Pottery is walk-in anytime during studio hours. World of Wonders Science Museum general admission does not require advance tickets. These are the programs you bookmark for the week your carefully planned camp schedule falls apart.

FAQ

How do I not miss a registration window?

Save the programs you want on the Lodi directory: saved programs send you an automated email before their registration closes. Each program page also shows its current registration status.

Do I need to register the day it opens?

For free programs like Lodi Junior Giants, early is smart since there is zero cost to claiming a spot. For the paid city camps, this year's recorded deadlines ran from mid-June (Skyhawks Soccer, June 19) through mid-July (LEGO Robotics, July 17), so there was more runway than the panic suggests. Register when your summer plan firms up, not in a scramble.

What if I miss early registration?

Ask about a waitlist. For City of Lodi programs, contact Parks and Rec at (209) 333-6742 and ask to be added. For private programs, call directly and ask whether another session is planned.

How do I find out when registration opens for a specific program?

Every program's page on the Lodi directory shows its current registration status and deadline where one exists, and saving it gets you an email before it closes. For anything still unposted, call the program directly; City of Lodi programs go through Parks and Rec at (209) 333-6742. Most programs follow a similar calendar year after year.

Can I register for multiple programs at once?

Yes, but watch for schedule conflicts. Summer Safari Camp runs 7am to 6pm, so you can't layer a morning Skyhawks camp on top. Half-day Parks and Rec camps (9am to 12pm or 1pm to 5pm) can pair with After Camp Care if you need full-day coverage. Build your schedule on paper first, then register in order of priority.

Mark your calendar for late March, save the programs you want so the deadline reminders come to you, and register when your plan firms up rather than the day before camp starts.
