Lodi's local Cub Scouts pack, for boys and girls in grades K-5. Scouting moved away from being a "boys only" organization several years ago, and Pack 199 is fully co-ed. Activities include outdoor adventures, camping, archery, Pinewood Derby (the famous car race), community service projects, and standard character-building work. Lodi parents pick this when they want their kid in a tradition-deep organization (Scouting has been around since 1910), when they want a multi-age peer group rather than a single grade, or when they want outdoor/wilderness exposure that other kids' activities do not provide. Annual cost is about $85 (low compared to most kids' activities). You can join anytime during the year, not just at the start of school.
